When it came time to accept the award, Mike was extremely nervous and had no idea what to expect once his name was called, or how the words would come out of his mouth. After thanking God and his family, he saw a lot of positive heads nods, which made him feel good. Next up was the little joke about his coach, which went over so well the entire room laughed out loud. From there, the nerves turned into confidence and for the first time in his life, he owned the room. In closing, he held up his award, said the most inspired “thank you” he ever had in his life, and received one heck of a round of applause. Mike took his seat with a huge smile and realized that he just had a life changing moment during the 45 seconds he was on the podium.

The success Mike had during his award acceptance speech inspired him. In 2003, Mike received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech Rhetoric and Public Address from St. John’s University (NY). While achieving this degree, Mike wrote and delivered countless speeches of all varieties, studied historical speeches, as well as the origins or rhetoric and oratory, and analyzed important speeches within current events. Basically, if you imagine the Public Speaking 101 course most people took as a freshman in college and multiply that by 4 years, that is what a degree in Speech Rhetoric and Public Address consists of.

In 2016, Mike received his Master of Public Administration degree from The University of Texas, Rio Grande Valley.

After providing some minimal advice to his colleagues about improving their approach to delivering a presentation, Mike saw their success and realized that he can spread the same results to others.
